Why an upgrade is worth it in today’s market
Most buyers never scroll past the first page of results, and standard listings drift down the page as newer ones come online. An upgrade keeps your property near the top, with bigger images, so the right buyer sees it first. These days that edge matters most in three situations:
You’re in a competitive suburb
You want to sell quickly
It’s a premium property
Compare realestate.com.au listings
Standard listings slide down realestate.com.au’s search results as newer properties come online. An upgrade lifts your listing back above standard results — in your suburb and in surrounding-suburb searches — so more buyers see it. Here’s how the three tiers compare.

Spread the cost — pay at settlement
A listing upgrade is an investment, and you shouldn’t have to find the cash upfront to give your sale its best shot. We’re partnered with Property.Credit, so you can spread the cost and pay when your property settles — plenty of our sellers already do. Let our team know you’d like to pay at settlement and we’ll help you set it up, or you can apply directly with Property.Credit.
What is a Feature property?
The entry-level upgrade. Your listing sits above every standard listing, though the image size stays the same — a low-cost way to climb higher up the page.
What is a Highlight property?
The popular middle option. You sit above standard and Feature listings, with larger images that catch the eye as buyers scroll — more visibility without stepping up to Premiere.
What is a Premiere property?
The top tier — the highest placement realestate.com.au offers, with the largest images. It also lifts back to the top of the results after about two weeks, so it keeps working through your campaign. Best for premium or highly competitive listings.
realestate.com.au upgrades: your questions answered
Standard listings slide down the search results as newer properties come online. An upgrade lifts yours back above standard listings — both in your suburb and in the ‘surrounding suburbs’ results buyers see once local listings run out. That matters most in regional and rural areas, where buyers often search across several nearby towns at once.
Pricing is set by realestate.com.au, not by us, and it varies by suburb — a busy inner-city suburb costs more than a quiet regional town. There’s no fixed price, so the best way to see yours is to log in or create a free account and get a quote for your area under ‘Listing Enhancements’ > ‘Realestate.com.au Upgrades’.
Do a quick test on realestate.com.au:
- Search your suburb with ‘include surrounding suburbs’ unchecked.
- Don’t apply any filters.
- Scroll until you find your listing.
- Look at the properties above yours — are they upgraded?
If your suburb has only a handful of listings, most buyers will scroll through all of them anyway and an upgrade may not be worth the spend. If there’s a lot of competition sitting above you, an upgrade is more likely to make a difference.
Usually not. Just as newer listings rise above older ones, newer upgrades rise above older upgrades — so your position drifts over time. The exception is Premiere, which lifts back up the results again after about two weeks. Each upgrade runs for 30 days from activation.
You can usually move up to a higher tier mid-campaign, and realestate.com.au may credit part of what you’ve already paid towards it. Downgrades aren’t possible, and upgrades are non-refundable — including if your property sells or leases while the upgrade is still running.
Yes, on request. We can have realestate.com.au send you a report showing how your upgrade affected views and enquiries, so you can see exactly what it did.
Two reasons. Traditional agencies often hold an ‘all Premiere’ subscription with realestate.com.au and bury the upgrade cost inside the large marketing fees they charge you. They also know they’ll recoup it through commission — often tens of thousands of dollars. We don’t charge commission, and we’ll never push an upgrade you don’t need. Our job is to help you make the most cost-effective choice for your property.
It depends where your buyers are looking. It’s worth comparing advertising on realestate.com.au and advertising on Domain before you decide where to put your budget.
