Deborah Roche, who just recently sold her property in Woronora Heights, NSW, shares her thoughts with us on private-selling and the PropertyNow process.
This interview is part of our ‘success stories’ series where we speak with owners who are in the process of selling and those that have recently sold. Hear all about Deborah’s PropertyNow experience below.
1. What services did Property Now provide, that assisted you most?
“The photographer and printing of coloured brochures, signs, and paperwork
templates. Everything I needed.”
2. If you could go back in time and give yourself some advice before selling your own home, what would it be?
“Not put the price on the brochure, so that I could be flexible with the price. I started a bit too high, so had to drop the price. I had been checking the market for the twelve months prior but the market had started to go off the boil.”
3. What have you been doing since selling, how has the sale benefited you?
“We were lucky to sell at the beginning of 2018. We were happy with the price we achieved. I believe we got the best price possible and that we achieved better than an agent. Having sold property before through an agent I know they would have tried to get me to accept the first offer. I had 3 interested parties, so I knew I was about on the money so I held out for a better offer. Real estate agents are just after a sale to get their commission. I did a better job and it cost me zero commission. We are downsizing to an apartment off the plan, so the money I saved will buy the new furniture.”
4. When you sold your property yourself, how did it feel? Was it empowering?
“I had the best fun!!!!! I loved the whole process. The buyer wanted to make an offer in person, so he came over to our house to meet us. We discussed the offer and we accepted a price. We were all very happy with the deal so my husband opened a bottom of wine and we celebrated. I love telling people about my experience. I am so proud of myself and my husband was most impressed!”
5. What was your favourite part about selling with PropertyNow? (feel free to list more than one).
“Being the real estate agent and hosting the open house. At first the buyers thought I was the agent and I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t sure if me being the owner would put them off. After about a month someone asked me if I was the owner. There were 5 groups looking over the property at the time and I was so surprised how responsive they were to know that I was the owner.
Buyers really liked dealing with the owner and I could tell them things about the house that an agent wouldn’t know. As we built the house 31 years ago I had a lot of history to tell them.”
